After 2015, Europe has significantly increased its assistance in the neighborhood of war-torn Syria and is looking for new ways of supporting African development. Merkel's Germany plays a significant role - and in combination with restrictive measures at the external borders (particularly in the Greek Islands, Libya and south of the Sahara in Niger), this has dramatically reduced the number of asylum seekers. It is good to see increased European activity in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon, where the effects of the Syrian War are the worst.
